Eastern Region Foundation Give Like Margot
IPPSers Are Just the Best!
You may have heard that the Eastern Region Foundation is having a fundraiser to establish a new scholarship in Margot Bridgen’s name. The goal is to raise $55,000 so the investment income from that nest egg can provide at least $2,000 every year. This is part of the Foundation’s mandate to help grow new horticulturists. We also provide funds for internships and micro Research Grants, all aimed at folks starting out in nurseries, public gardens and horticulture education.
In late February, I contacted Eastern Region past presidents who worked with Margot during her 26 years as Executive Secretary/Treasurer. It was such a great experience! The Canadians led off with $6,000 in donations, followed by members across the Region who have given generously in the past. One member apologized for not being in a position to provide matching funds due to significant family medical expenses, but still made a donation within the hour. As of March 1, we have received almost $20,000 towards our goal. IPPSers are just THE best!
Margot organized two International Tours during her tenure, so many of you know her and some worked with her on those tours. If you are moved to support new people entering horticulture and want to recognize Margot’s outstanding contributions to IPPS, you might like to Give Like Margot!
