Welcoming Our New President, Shelby French
Greetings IPPS Eastern Region:
I am honored to be serving as your new President, following in such amazing footsteps of those who have served before. My heartfelt thanks goes out to Matt Palmieri for his leadership the past year, and graciously giving of his time to steer the society. Matt exemplifies what IPPS has always stood for – to seek and to share. What a privilege it has been to serve alongside a friend and fellow nursery person.
It is my favorite season and finally looks like autumn. Seed collecting has been in high gear at the Farm at Doe Run: Quercus macrocarpa, Q. alba, Q. bicolor, Asimina, Diospyros to name a few. Last Friday I spent the whole morning cleaning seed by eating my way through a pile of persimmons and paw paws!
Quiz question – do you believe Diospyros americana, native persimmon, must have a hard frost to be edible?
Text me Y/N 302-723-6244. Results in November's issue.
The recent conference was a much needed inspiration for me. It was my 12th conference! The friendships and knowledge that IPPS have brought me are countless. This conference in particular had amazing student participation via scholarships and our 18 count poster display. This coming year we look to develop further support of young adult members and new members, stay tuned for other initiatives. Please contact me or any board member at anytime with feedback.
Get out there to seek and share!
Kind regards,
Shelby French
