New Year, New Growth: A Message from the President

New Year, New Growth: A Message from the President

Happy New Year IPPS Eastern Region:

The North East is getting blasted with cold! Finally we are getting some winter in the Mid-Atlantic to help overwintering pests and make us grateful for our warm houses. And just as I wished for, more snow this weekend.

I attended a local nursery conference (DNLA) and there is a Penn State grower day next week – one of my professors said “you better keep learning because everyone else is going to be.” At the Farm at Doe Run there is lots of scheduling and spreadsheets, dealing with a mouse issue in the prop house, and squeegeeing windows.

What plant are you propagating right now that you are most excited about? Text 302-723-6244. Results in February issue.

My answer: Callicarpa americana provenance Delaware. This will be planted along the native shrub border of the greenhouse.

Also, feel free to add your super bowl prediction! Go Birds!
**Please note my hat in photo, yes I can do office work from the tractor.**

Thank you volunteers! Committees are hard at work holding first meetings in the new year. Plans are under way for area meetings - those are local and easier for some to travel to. We are always brainstorming was to increase value to our members and find ways to connect with IPPS throughout the year. Got any ideas?

Please contact me or any board member at anytime with feedback. Get out there to seek and share.

Best wishes to all in week 4 of the New Year,

Shelby French
