Bringing IPPS to the White House: A Former Southern Region President’s Reflections on Sustainable Chemistry

We’re always eager to highlight significant conversations impacting our industry. Brie Gluvna, a former Southern Region President of IPPS, recently participated in the Federal Sustainable Chemistry Strategic Planning event hosted by the EPA at the White House. Although this wasn’t an official IPPS initiative, Brie’s experience offers valuable insights into how IPPS’s work intersects with cutting-edge sustainability discussions.

Reflections from Brie
Holiday greetings! I had the opportunity to attend the Federal Sustainable Chemistry Strategic Planning event at the White House. While the primary focus was on the PFAS crisis and advancing non-regrettable technologies, many of the themes resonate strongly with the green industry—particularly the vital role IPPS can play in shaping our field’s future.

Leaders from academia, industry, and government shared diverse and sometimes conflicting perspectives. Despite the complexity, one clear takeaway emerged: meaningful progress requires open communication and collaboration. That’s where IPPS excels—building a bridge between private industry and academia to keep innovation forward-thinking and impactful.

Looking ahead, it’s clear that IPPS will only grow in importance as a unifying force. I’m proud to see the International Board championing these conversations, ensuring IPPS remains a relevant, dynamic society that continues to broaden its reach among plant production professionals.

Thank you for all you do to advance IPPS’s mission. I’m optimistic about what we can accomplish together in 2025 and beyond. Wishing everyone a bright new year!
