Gratitude and Growth: A Thanksgiving Message
Greetings IPPS Eastern Region:
Happy Thanksgiving! I’m thankful for all the things I take for granted – being able to get up in the morning, a roof over my head, food in abundance...but also for all those other things in my life – rescuing 3 week old kittens this past week, Sunday football (Go Birds!), Fridays, family, friends, Christmas music, IPPS.
What are you thankful for right now? Text 302-723-6244. Results in December issue.
Thanks to those who answered last issues quiz question – do you believe Diospyros americana, native persimmon, must have a hard frost to be edible? In general the feedback is that while edible and tasty as long as they are very soft, a hard frost only enhances the flavor and one is less likely to encounter the astringent mouth-puckering, suck-on-cotton-ball-feeling (aka cotton mouth).
- A gold star goes to our reader in Connecticut, Rachel Conley for correctly identifying Diospyros virginiana. ;)
At the Farm at Doe Run we are sowing and cleaning native seed collected last month, starting Freesia and Ranunculus for cuts during winter, covering fan coolers, attacking cool season annual weeds which exploded this month, etc.
Each issue you will hear me express that the friendships and knowledge that IPPS have brought me are countless. Happy Friendsgiving! Please contact me or any board member at anytime with feedback. Get out there to seek and share!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your friends & family,
Shelby French

This time of year is definitely the most reflective of the whole year.
